Monterey Jazz Bash by the Bay

Monterey Event – Jazz Bash by the Bay

Though Monterey offers year-round beauty, activities, and great food, one of the most exciting weekends in our town is the Jazz Bash by the Bay on March 2nd through 4th. Hosted by Dixieland Monterey, this jazz festival offers a fun atmosphere to hear a whole weekend’s worth of great jazz in Portola Plaza.

Jazz Bash by the Bay has a great selection of performers all day long, so why not stop by for a great meal at Café Fina, one of the best Monterey restaurants, to round out the perfect weekend! The festival runs through the evening on Friday and Saturday and through the mid-afternoon on Sunday, the perfect time to stop by for lunch or dinner!

About the Jazz Bash by the Bay Festival

Dixieland Monterey is celebrating its 38th annual Jazz Bash by the Bay festival this year at Monterey’s Conference Center and Portola Hotel and Spa, just around the corner from us at Café Fina. With all of its great musicians, the jazz festival this year is hosted in eight different venues with seven dance floors. Be sure to check out the 2018 schedule at www.jazzbashmonterey.com to get a full list of the schedule and location of each performance.Musicians travel from all over the United States and Canada to perform classic jazz, swing, and ragtime music at this festival. Be sure to check out Dixieland Monterey’s musician of the year, pianist Mark Allen Jones, who will be playing throughout the entire festival.

Dixieland Monterey also values cultivating new talent and appreciation of jazz with its youth programs. If you know a kid who is interested in music or learning how to play an instrument, be sure to check out the Jazz Bash Youth Clinic at the festival. Here, the Blue Street Jazz Band and Side Street Strutters host a two-hour clinic for all school-aged musicians and introduce early jazz styles and solo work to promote confidence. The Jazz Bash Youth Clinics start at 9:30 and 10:30 am on Saturday, March 3rd.

Another great way to promote Dixieland Monterey’s mission for youth in jazz is to participate in the Jazz Bash Raffle. Located in the De Anza lobby and other festival venues, Seaside High School students sell raffle tickets that benefit music programs for schools in the local area.

The best way to take in the entire festival is to purchase a festival badge. This allows you to stroll from performance to performance, but be sure to get these early since there are only a select number of all-day and all-festival packages. You can purchase these and other tickets by calling 888-349-6879 or 831-754-8786.

Café Fina

When you are hungry or ready for a break from the festival, take a walk to Monterey’s fisherman’s wharf to take in the beauty of the Monterey Bay and eat some delicious food.

Café Fina is located about halfway down the fisherman’s wharf and offers delicious Italian seafood. Started by a local Italian fisherman, Café Fina has been around since 1989, and we take pride in our delicious family recipes, fresh pasta, and vegetables grown on our own 25-acre farm.

Stop by for an appetizer, lunch, dinner, or a drink at Café Fina during your stay at the Jazz Bash. We take pride in supporting and utilizing local ingredients, so be sure to try our roasted Gilroy garlic toast and steamed Castroville artichokes when you stop by for an appetizer. If you are looking to try the delicious seafood of the area, look no further than trying our fresh oysters or Mediterranean black mussels. Though we are Italian, we also incorporate classic American seafood favorites like clam chowder in a sourdough bowl and shrimp mac and cheese.

Monterey provides us with beautiful cool, ocean breezes so if you are looking to warm up during lunch or dinner, try our seafood cioppino or paella. All that dancing at the jazz festival is sure to give you a healthy appetite at dinnertime. Our dinner menu with its fresh plates of pasta and seafood, steak, surf-and-turf, and pizzas are sure to fill you up and complete your fun-filled day.

We like to showcase the amazing California wines that are made in our surrounding area. Therefore, we offer an extensive wine list that features wine from vineyards in Monterey, Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, and the Santa Cruz Mountains. We also feature Italian wine if you want to keep on a theme with your Italian seafood meal.

The Jazz Bash by the Bay is sure to bring a lot of visitors to the area, so be sure to make a dinner reservation with us. We can be contacted at 1-800-THE-FINA or 831-372-5200.
